These Cheeseburger Sliders were served up at a recent outdoor family event. This is an adapted recipe from Natasha’s Kitchen . After halving it and adjusting a couple of ingredients, the official taste-testers gave them rave reviews! This would be perfect to serve to your family on game days or a busy night.
Preparation:
First, turn the pan you are choosing to use upside down. Form fit the foil to the bottom, folding and tucking at the corners. Lift it off, turn the pan upright and insert the foil Voila! I usually use the quick release foil, but you could substitute parchment paper easily.
This pan is a perfect fit! You could also use King’s Hawaiian Rolls (which I couldn’t find, believe it or not).
Without separating the rolls, slice halfway through and place the bottom half in the lined pan.
Assemble ingredients, except for burger filling. Using 4-5 slices of cheese, cover the bottom half, cutting pieces as needed to provide coverage as shown below.
The Burger:
Saute the onion in the olive oil over LOW heat until translucent. Stir in the pressed garlic clove for about 30 seconds or until fragrant. Add in the burger and cook/crumble on MEDIUM heat until no longer pink. Remove any excess fat by tilting the pan to the side and spooning it out or by using a paper towel to absorb it. This was made with 93/7 lean ground beef, so there wasn’t a huge amount.
Stir in the mayo along with the Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper over LOW heat. Once the mayo is no longer visible, remove from the heat. The mayo was a surprise ingredient, but it does add a nice touch of flavor. I know there are some of you who don’t like mayo, but have you ever made it from scratch? Check out my Marvelous Homemade Mayonnaise , one of my first blog posts. The ingredients are simple and ones you’ve used separately in other recipes: egg yolk, water, sea salt, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, canola/olive oil The emulsion process results in this white formation.
Finishing the Assembly:
Scoop and spread out the burger mix on top of the sliced cheese leaving a bit of a border as shown.
Next, spread the shredded cheese evenly over the top of the burger mixture.
Place the top layer of the rolls carefully over the cheese. Brush them with melted butter. If desired, you could top with sesame seeds to make them look like hamburger buns as Natasha did or a sprinkle of some Italian seasoning as I did on the top. If you want to try something different, by all means go for it!
Bake for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Once removed from the oven, slice into individual rolls for serving. If you choose to make these ahead of time, place them in the fridge until ready to bake Add an additional 3-5 minutes or more as needed to allow the cheese to melt.
