Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef (93/7)
  • 1 T olive oil
  • 2 T finely diced red onion
  • 1 garlic clove, pressed or finely minced
  • 1/2 t Kosher salt
  • 1/2 t freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 T mayonnaise
  • 1 pkg. 12 Hawaiian Rolls
  • 4-5 slices of medium cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 T melted butter
  • sesame seeds (optional)
  • Italian seasoning(optional)

Instructions

  • Saute onion in olive oil until translucent over LOW heat. Stir in garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Add in ground beef. Crumble and cook until no longer pink over MEDIUM heat.
  • Stir in Kosher salt, black pepper and mayonnaise over LOW heat. Once mayo is no longer visible, remove from heat.
  • Slice package of rolls in half horizontally; do not separate rolls. Place lower half in lined baking dish.
  • Layer the sliced cheese onto the bottom layer of rolls. Cut slices to fit, if needed.
  • Spread hamburger mixture on top of cheese leaving a small border.
  • Next, spread shredded cheese over the hamburger.
  • Place top half of rolls on top and brush melted butter on the top. You may sprinkle sesame seeds on top or seasoning of your choice.. I used Italian seasoning on mine.
  • Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Once out of the oven, slice into the individual rolls for serving. Enjoy! *(see note below)

Notes

These can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake. The baking time may need to be extended for 3-5 additional minutes to compensate for this chilling time.
