Turmeric Milk is ready to make at the first sign of cold symptoms. Consider this a cup of soothing wellness. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years not just as a spice, but as a medicinal herb. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Even though turmeric has a low curcumin content, its absorbtion into the bloodstream can be enhanced by consuming it with black pepper which contains piperine, a natural substance in pepper.(https://authoritynutrition.com) There are many articles available regarding the benefits of turmeric. I encourage you to complete your own investigation regarding tumeric or any other beneficial herb before using it.
The Mix Up:
Before making it, be aware that turmeric can stain clothing and countertops. Protect your surfaces and clothes! To start, the milk, honey/agave, vanilla and spices are whisked and simmered together in a small saucepan for about 2 minutes. DO NOT BOIL! As an alternative, you can zap it in the microwave for a couple of minutes in a large glass bowl, stirring about every 30 seconds.
Strain It:
Whisking while it simmers will turn it into a beautiful shade of mellow yellow! (Did you like that?) Next, pour it through a strainer. The ingredients have infused the milk at this point and can be removed. Some smaller particles will remain.
Serve it up!
This recipe for Turmeric Milk makes 2 cups and can be easily doubled or halved. Making this ahead of time can save you from stumbling around the kitchen while sneezing and sniffling. Just warm up the strained turmeric milk in your favorite cozy mug that makes you feel better just by hugging your hands around it. My experience with Turmeric Milk is that it reduces the duration of my cold so the spicy peppery flavor can be endured with the natural sweetness of either the honey or agave syrup. I have even used my Nutri-Bullet to give it a frothiness. Fancy, without going out of the house, makes me feel better. Now, go sit by that fire with a cozy blanket.
